Finally, today our group and few other volunteers finished hauling down the leftover Scot's broom from last week's removal and spread 34 bails of woodstraw for erosion control. Unfortunately, the woodstraw was not evenly distributed as we had planned in our document. What we planned was: the upper steep slope adjacent to the access road was supposed to be 70% cover, and the lower down slopes were about 40-50%. Because of limited budget, we are not able to place any more order for bails of woodstraw; some parts of the site will be exposed for now until next week's planting.
We didn't expect today's tasks would consume so much time or we would have announced to volunteers for their participation. Volunteers' efforts are REALLY significant contributions to a big project's site like ours. Now let's cross our fingers for next Saturday's volunteer number. IT IS A BEGINNING OF BIG PLANTING PHASE!!!
Mark your calendar for Saturday March 10th, 2012 from 10 am to 2 pm and come out to the Saltwater Park to help us continue with the project.
