Our next restoration party!

We have a work party tomorrow out at Saltwater Park. We will be out there from 10 AM - 2 PM removing the remaining Scot's Broom in the restoration area and installing fascines that we will be creating on site with the Scot's Broom branches. Volunteers are welcome to come help during the work party. Minors will need a parent's signature. Refreshments will be provided by Richmond Beach QFC and Starbucks. Hope to see you there!

Restoration project update

Our first restoration work party at Saltwater Park was a huge success. We removed the Scot's Broom from two-thirds of our design site with the help of our amazing volunteers. Everyone was working really hard together to remove and haul away the invasive plants. An enormous THANK YOU goes out to the volunteers who came out to help as well as to Richmond Beach QFC and Starbucks for providing refreshments for the event. We are well on our way to restoring the native landscape. Stay tuned for more updates!

Work Party Today!

We have our first work party today from 10 am -2 pm out at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park. Work parties are a great way to get involved and help support the restoration project. Come out today and join us in removing Scot's Broom above the playground. We will be providing light refreshments, tools, and gloves. Just bring yourself dressed comfortably for the occasion and a lunch! Hope to see you out there!

       Despite our first work party being snowed out we have been working this week planning out the project details. We are finalizing our planting plan and are pleased to have received support from Richmond Beach QFC, two local Starbucks shops, and several active community members. Thank you!

January 16th Work Party cancelled due to snow

Given the recent snowy weather in the Seattle area and the forecast for snow and low temperatures tomorrow, we decided to cancel tomorrow's work party. We do not want anybody to be injured on the way to or at the work party. It will also be hard to see the plants under the snow.

Snowy Owls made the local news recently. We are hoping to spot one while out at Saltwater Park. Our restoration plan includes the consideration of their habitat needs as our site is within their winter habitation range.

"In general the Snowy Owl inhabits areas of low sparse vegetation, open fields, moorland, valley floors, salt and poorly drained fresh water meadows. Its habitat is closely associated with the distribution of small rodents and in the case of breeding territory directly corresponds with the distribution of small rodents (especially lemming). In the winter it is often found in farming areas with open fields of low stubble, marshes, and even dunes."

January's Work Party on Martin Luther King Day

Please join us for a Volunteer Restoration Work Party at the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park! We will be removing exotic species above the children’s playground.  
Minors 14-17 must have a signed parental waiver; 
minors under 14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Location: Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, 2021 NW 190th Street Shoreline

Action: Come to our fun volunteer event, meet other community members, socialize at the playground while enjoying refreshments, and restore your local park!

Volunteer Preparation: Wear sturdy clothes, and footwear, as we’ll be working on steep slopes.  Come prepared for the weather as we will work rain or shine. Tools and gloves are provided but bring yours if you have them.  Please bring your lunch. We will serve light refreshments.
